A clutch fork transmits the motion of the clutch linkage into the transmission bell housing,
where it pushes the release bearing forward toward the pressure plate levers, disengaging the clutch.
Clutch forks are used with mechanical, cable, and hydraulic clutch linkages, and typically pivot over a ball stud or shaft.
The release bearing is commonly secured to the clutch fork by a spring clip or wire retainer.
Because of the large forces involved, clutch forks are usually made of heavy gauge steel stampings or forgings.

The clutch fork plays an important part in a properly operating clutch system.
If it is bent or exhibits excessive wear at the pivot points, full release bearing travel will be affected,
and clutch release problems can occur.
In hydraulic systems, a bent fork can cause the slave cylinder to over-extend, resulting in high system pressure
and leading to leaking hoses and a cracked master or slave cylinder. Because they cannot be replaced once the
transmission is in place, clutch forks should be carefully examined and replaced if any wear, bending, or cracking is observed.

All new spring-steel clips insure that the fork is properly retained to the ball stud and release bearing.
