Since 1934, LIPE™ has been a world-wide innovator when it comes to medium-duty O.E.
clutches for commercial vehicles. That tradition continues with the newest generation of 15.5” heavy-duty
LIPE™ clutches, which utilize innovative technology and design, in order to provide increased heat resistance,
torque capacity, and durability that’s required with today’s class 6-8 vehicles.
LIPE History
For over 50 years, LIPE™ clutches were manufactured in Syracuse, NY. That changed in 1998, when production was moved to a state-of-the-art |

facility located in Paris, TN. In 2007, Setco Automotive
acquired the LIPE™ brand and the Tennessee facility from Haldex. This followed the acquisition of LIPE™
Clutch UK (United Kingdom) from Dana Corporation in late 2005. These acquisitions provided Setco with
global rights to the LIPE™ brand. In late 2008, Setco and AMS formed a joint venture agreement, in which
AMS would market and distribute class 6-8 LIPE™ clutch products.

Setco Today |
Setco Automotive is a premier manufacturer of clutch products for the automotive and commercial
vehicle market. In addition, Setco manufactures hydraulics and pressure converters, along with
precision engineering components like deep drawn pressings, forgings, and castings.
Based in Mumbai, Setco has manufacturing facilities in India, UK, and U.S.A that currently export
to over 30 countries. Setco UK is also the research and development hub for Setco's clutch
products, and the technology provider to global operation. Setco U.S.A. is the research and
development hub for hydraulics products. |

| Coverage |
| The lineup of LIPE™ clutches include over 100 configurations that are compatible with a broad
cross-section of truck makes, models, and engines, for both on and off-road vehicles.
Optional LIPE™ variations are designed for a range of applications that include ceramic and
organic friction material, pull or push style actuation, as well as diaphragm or coil spring
designs. Medium-duty coverage includes 13” thru 14” configurations and heavy-duty coverage
includes the newly designed 15.5” configuration. The result is comprehensive application
coverage for Caterpillar®, Cummins®, Detroit Diesel®, Ford®, GM®, Mack®, Navistar®, and Volvo
engines.

| Quality |
LIPE™ clutches are engineered to provide lasting performance and optimal durability. Each LIPE™
clutch sold in North American is produced in the Paris, TN facility using only high-grade
heavy-duty components. For example, 15.5” LIPE™ pressure plates are 46% heavier than the
Eaton®-style equivalent. As a result, LIPE™ pressure plates serve as a better heat sink,
which further maximizes the benefit of direct spring pressure versus angle spring pressure.
Additional features include:
- Case-hardened pressure plate assembly levers
- Value spring quality carbon steel pressure plate assembly springs
- Encapsulated needle bearings in the pressure plate assembly pivot holes
- Heavy duty cast iron release bearing housings
- Miba sintered friction material on the disc (click here to view Miba details)
- Valve spring quality carbon steel wire disc springs

| Warranty |
| Lots of clutch companies claim to offer higher quality and lasting
durability, but none of them back it up quite like LIPE™. With 2-year unlimited mileage
coverage against defects in workmanship and materials, LIPE™ clutches are backed by the
industry’s longest and most comprehensive warranty…that’s at least double the competition!
Should any questions arise, our toll-free technical assistance is available to help. |
|
|
| Installation |
| There are no special tools or modifications needed when installing a
LIPE™ clutch. With many other clutch designs, a hoist is required for installation.
That’s because the clutch assembly, center plate, and both discs are mounted to the
transmission together. The combined weight of these components can exceed 150 pounds.
In contrast, each LIPE™ component is independently balanced and designed to be installed
one piece at a time. In fact, the heaviest component weighs about 70 pounds.

|
| Adjustment |
| With clutch designs that utilize an adjusting ring, adjustment is
a time-consuming two-man process. An assistant is required to continually “bump” the starter
, until the adjustment mechanism is positioned facing the inspection window. When that’s been
accomplished, the clutch must be disengaged in order to make the necessary adjustment.
That requires the assistant to hold down the clutch pedal while the technician
performs the adjustment.
LIPE™ clutch adjustment is a quick and easy one-man process due to the unique adjustment
mechanism. When using a LIPE™ clutch, it is not necessary to bump the starter to view the
adjustment mechanism, nor is it necessary to disengage the clutch to perform the
adjustment. Because the LIPE™ wear indicator is visible from any position, it’s easy to
determine the amount of adjustment that is required. The actual process involves
loosening the locking nut, measuring the dimension from the clutch brake to release
bearing, turning the adjusting nut until a dimension of ½” is achieved, and
tightening the locking nut.
The LIPE™ adjustment mechanism proves superior to adjusting ring designs in several
more respects. The threads of an adjusting ring may become clogged with debris.
When this happens, the adjusting ring cannot be repositioned and the clutch must be removed
and repaired, or replaced. Furthermore, when clutches utilizing an adjusting ring are
matched up to a resurfaced flywheel, it may be necessary to install a thicker clutch brake
to prevent the loss of 25-50% of the adjustable capacity of the clutch.
That’s because resurfacing a flywheel moves the installed clutch further away from the
transmission. The LIPE™ adjustment mechanism is uniquely designed to maximize clutch life
each and every time.
